License FAQs

How do I obtain a trial license and download for 3Laws Supervisor?

This link provides a registration form to request a license. The license code, which is valid for 60 days from the request date, will be e-mailed to the address that you provide. Please check your spam folder.

On how many devices can I install 3Laws Supervisor with the trial license?

You may install the license on two (2) devices with the trial license. After 60 days, the license will expire, and Supervisor will no longer start up.

What is the difference between Supervisor and Supervisor Pro?

3Laws Supervisor is an off-the-shelf module built for mobile robots and automated ground vehicles using ROS/ROS2 for communication and execution. The primary guardrail it provides is collision avoidance based on point clouds (from LIDARs) or from lists of nearby obstacles.

Supervisor Pro is software that 3Laws can customize to enforce any combination of the following:

  • a variety of constraints beyond collision avoidance including geofencing, stabilization, configuration limiting, command monitoring, altitude ceilings, and altitude floors.
  • devices other than mobile robots such as fixed-wing aircraft, copter-style drones, boats, submarines, automobiles, trucks, tractor-trailers; in essence, any device in motion.
  • Communication and execution methods other than ROS. For example, if the robot uses a custom protocol or an in-house execution engine, Supervisor Pro can incorporate those mechanisms to provide the desired behavior.
What computational infrastructure is required for 3Laws Supervisor?

3Laws has deployed Supervisor on processors as light-weight as Raspberry Pi 4 for simple applications like mobile robots using 2-dimensional laser-scanners. The computational needs are largely driven by how much sensor data needs to be processed, the complexity of the dynamical model used to forward-propagate the system’s behavior, and the duration of the event-horizon for predictions.
